Privacy notice
Placeholder. This text is awaiting legal review. It lists what Rift Hunters processes today so the review can start from facts; it is not yet the binding privacy notice.

Website (rifthunters.com)
- Server logs: IP address and request data, processed by our hosting provider to deliver the site. [Retention to be set by legal review]
- Analytics (PostHog, EU): only after you accept analytics cookies. Before that, counts are collected without cookies or identifiers. You can change your choice at any time under Cookie settings in the footer.
- Language choice: a functional cookie that remembers your language.
- Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile): on forms, to tell people from bots.
Location takedown requests
When you ask us to remove a game location, we store your name, email address, the code of the location, your message, the language you used, and a one-way hash of your email address and IP address (to limit repeated requests). We keep a request for 3 years after it is decided. Emails are sent through Postmark.
The app
- Account: email address or sign-in provider (Google, Apple), nickname, age confirmation.
- Game progress: quest events, ratings and survey answers.
- Location: used on your device to show the map and confirm that you reached a place. [Details on what is sent to the server, to be completed]
- Push notifications: a device token, if you allow notifications.
- Analytics and crash reports: [Details to be completed]
Quests you write
When you submit a quest for review, its texts (titles, clues, puzzles, hints) are sent to DeepL, a translation service, so the quest can be played in English and German. Only the quest text is sent, not your account. Please don't put personal data in quest texts. [Whether DeepL uses the text to improve its service, and the processing terms, to be confirmed by legal review]
Service providers (processors)
- PostHog (EU): website and app analytics, after consent.
- Cloudflare (Turnstile): bot protection on forms.
- Postmark: emails about takedown requests.
- DeepL: machine translation of submitted quest texts.
- [Hosting and database providers, to be completed by legal review]
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) or on the web at rifthunters.com/account/delete. Your account and profile are deleted at once; game progress is anonymised so it can no longer be linked to you.
